Why the next Apple TV 4K will need more than a faster chip

Rumors

The rumored Apple TV 4K upgrade may be judged by software support as much as by its faster chip.

Reports suggest Apple’s next Apple TV 4K may add more RAM and a new networking chip alongside a faster processor. The CMS calendar lists the model as expected later in 2026, while Apple has not announced it.

More memory could help demanding games and apps, but the upgrade’s value will depend on software support. If future tvOS features also run on current Apple TV models, the new hardware may be most useful for heavier workloads.

The final design, price, storage, and release date are unknown. Apple’s existing Apple TV 4K already supports 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, AirPlay, and compatible smart-home accessories, so the successor will need a practical advantage beyond the specification list.
