GemRate August Report Shows 3.4M Cards Graded as CGC Sets Record

GemRate released its card grading data for August, reporting 3.40 million total items processed across major authentication firms. The figure reflects a 6 percent decrease from July but a 47 percent jump year over year. Adjusted for business days, overall activity dropped just 1 percent month over month. PSA led the market with 2.20 million total cards graded, down 12 percent from the previous month. TCG and non-sports cards represented the vast majority of PSA's volume at 1.66 million cards, climbing 64 percent year over year. CGC reached a record high of 937,000 cards graded, representing a 9 percent increase over July and a 114 percent rise compared to the same period last year. CGC's monthly total also incorporated roughly 65,000 semi-rigid authentication items added to its population report. Beckett graded 159,000 cards, falling 1 percent from July while growing 147 percent year over year. TAG set a new company record with 58,000 cards graded, up 2 percent month over month, while SGC finished the month with 42,000 cards graded.
