TrendForce: iPhone Duo on track for 5 million units and ~25% of foldable market in 2026
TrendForce estimates Apple will ship about 5 million iPhone Duo units in 2026 for a 24.8% foldable share — tied with Huawei for second behind Samsung — while the overall category barely grows.
A day after Apple unveiled its first foldable, iPhone Duo, TrendForce published a fresh shipment forecast that puts Apple near a quarter of the global foldable smartphone market in its debut calendar year.

Strip out Apple and the remaining Android brands are projected at roughly 15.2 million units — down more than 20% YoY — with the firm blaming sharp component-cost increases.
In other words, Duo demand is expected to offset Android declines more than expand the pie in year one.
Design trade-offs TrendForce calls out
The note also frames Duo’s hardware choices as classic foldable compromises: no dedicated periscope telephoto (the 48MP Main handles 2x optical-quality zoom), and side-button Touch ID instead of Face ID, to keep thickness and internal volume in check. That lines up with Apple’s own build detail around a 10-layer inner display stack, grade-5 titanium, ~254 g weight, and ~5.2 mm open / ~11.3 mm closed.
Longer-term read
TrendForce calls 2026 a structural realignment year for foldables. Near term, Duo’s volume mainly plugs a hole left by softer Android shipments. Over a longer horizon, the firm expects Apple’s requirements for displays, UTG, hinges, and architecture to push supply-chain maturation — and to force Samsung and Chinese brands to revisit specs and cost. It also flags AI + large-display multitasking as a possible demand driver beyond “thinner and less crease.”
Caveats
These are analyst estimates, not Apple guidance. Duo pre-orders open October 16 with availability October 23 at a $1,999 start — a price that can constrain volume even if share looks strong inside a small category.
