Apple’s own Series 12 tech specs show ceramic 42mm and 46mm cases are taller, thicker, and up to ~34% heavier than aluminum under the same nominal size — a first for modern Watch ceramic.
If you’re eyeing the $899 ceramic Series 12, Apple’s own Size and Weight specs matter more than the finish names: ceramic cases are physically larger and heavier than aluminum or titanium under the same nominal 42mm / 46mm size.
That’s distinct from older ceramic Edition Watches that shared dimensions with metal siblings. On Series 12, the ceramic case is a different physical object — even though display active area is listed the same.
From Apple’s tech specs:
Night Blue ceramic is about 34% heavier than the aluminum GPS config (52.9g vs 39.5g).
Ceramic still starts at $899 with Pearl White and Night Blue finishes (covered in our finishes and bands rundown). Pre-orders are open with availability beginning Friday, September 18, same window as the Series 12 / Ultra 4 announce.
Just know the case you get is ~1mm taller (and, on 46mm, wider) plus thicker and substantially heavier than metal configs sold under the same size label.
