iCloud “Activate Storage” Settings badge won’t clear for some iOS 27 users
A red Settings badge saying “Activate iCloud Storage” is sticking for some users on iOS 27 / 27.2 / 26.7 even with ample storage. Apple Support points to signing out of Media & Purchases, then back in.
Some iPhones are stuck with an unremovable red badge on the Settings app reading Activate iCloud Storage — even when the account already has plenty of free space.
9to5Mac (Benjamin Mayo, Sep 22, 2026) reports the alert opens the iCloud storage purchase screen and does not clear after dismissing it. Affected users include people on large plans such as a 2 TB family Apple One subscription.
Who is seeing it
Per 9to5Mac, the glitched badge has shown up on:
- release iOS 27
- iOS 27.2
- iOS 26.7
Apple sometimes uses Settings badges for legitimate reminders (Apple TV trials, AppleCare), but this prompt appears to be a bug rather than an intentional upsell — it fires even when storage is not full.
Workaround (Apple Support)
An update to the 9to5Mac report says Apple Support recommends signing out of Media & Purchases, then signing back in:
- Open Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases
- Tap Sign Out
- Sign back in with the same Apple Account
Some users earlier reported that signing out of the full Apple Account on the device also cleared the badge; the Support guidance is the thinner Media & Purchases path.
There is no public word yet on a server-side fix or a software patch dedicated to the badge.
