iOS 27.0.1 released — Face ID reboot fix for iPhone 18 Pro now available

Apple has released iOS 27.0.1, the first point update to iOS 27, with release notes that confirm a fix for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Face ID freeze-and-reboot bug Apple said last week would arrive early this week.

Apple’s security releases page lists iOS 27.0.1 and iPadOS 27.0.1 as available as of 28 September 2026 (no published CVE entries). Companion macOS Golden Gate 27.0.1 and visionOS 27.0.1 updates shipped the same day, per MacRumors, 9to5Mac, and AppleInsider.

Apple’s in-update release notes, as reported by MacRumors and 9to5Mac, say the update provides bug fixes including:

• iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate
• A color artifact may appear on photos captured at 2× under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices
• Opening Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously may cause the touchscreen to become unresponsive

The Face ID restart line is the fix Apple previewed after owners reported freezes and hard reboots following a failed Face ID attempt inside a protected app. The Notification Center / Control Center touch hang can affect other iPhone models on iOS 27 as well; the Face ID and 2× photo items are Pro-specific.

How to install

On a compatible iPhone, go to Settings → General → Software Update and install iOS 27.0.1 over Wi‑Fi with enough battery (or while charging). Apple’s Support security list also covers iPadOS 27.0.1 for eligible iPads; iPadOS notes are a shorter “bug fixes” blurb per 9to5Mac.

Back up first if you prefer, then update — especially if you hit the Face ID reboot path on an 18 Pro / Pro Max.

Whether iOS 27.0.1 also clears the separate AT&T cellular / eSIM complaints some U.S. Pro Max owners reported is not called out in Apple’s public notes — treat that as unconfirmed until carriers or Apple say otherwise.
