iPhone 18 Pro is eSIM-only in 12 markets; iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide
Apple lists 12 markets where iPhone 18 Pro models ship eSIM-only with extra battery life; Duo has no physical SIM tray anywhere.

iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max: eSIM-only in 12 markets
In the iPhone 18 Pro Newsroom debut, Apple says eSIM-only models of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be available in:
- Bahrain
- Canada
- Guam
- Japan
- Kuwait
- Mexico
- Oman
- Qatar
- Saudi Arabia
- UAE
- United States
- U.S. Virgin Islands
Apple adds that those eSIM-only units use the space formerly occupied by the physical SIM for an even larger battery, claiming two additional hours of video playback versus tray models. That is the same country set MacRumors reported as unchanged versus last year’s Pro eSIM-only footprint.
Elsewhere (including the U.K./Europe, Australia, and many other regions), Pro models still ship with a nano-SIM tray + eSIM, per Apple’s regional product pages and secondary reporting. China’s multi-SIM combinations remain a separate local configuration story.
iPhone Duo: eSIM-only everywhere
Duo’s tech specs are clearer still: Dual eSIM (two active; stores eight or more) and explicit language that Duo is not compatible with physical SIM cards. Unlike the Pro regional split, Duo is eSIM-only worldwide.
Buyer takeaway
If you pre-order an iPhone 18 Pro on September 12 in one of the 12 markets above — or any Duo — plan on carrier eSIM transfers, not a plastic SIM swap. Dual-active eSIM still covers travel for many carriers; confirm your operator supports eSIM before launch day.
