iPhone Duo has no Action Button — Silent mode moves to Control Center
Apple’s first foldable skips the Action Button entirely. Specs show volume, Camera Control, and a Touch ID side button — with Silent mode via Control Center, the first modern iPhone without a physical mute control.
Apple’s iPhone Duo is missing something every recent iPhone shipped with: an Action Button. MacRumors flagged the omission from Apple’s technical specifications diagram — and the consequence for Silent mode.
What’s on the edges instead
Per Apple’s Duo specs layout (as reported by MacRumors), the physical controls are:
- Volume up / down at the top
- Camera Control and a side button on the right
- USB-C at the bottom
- Microphones and speakers at the top and bottom
There is no Action Button on the left edge above the volume keys — the slot occupied on iPhone 18 Pro and earlier Action Button models.
Silent mode without a mute switch
Apple introduced the Action Button with iPhone 15 Pro; every iPhone since then included it. Duo is the first iPhone with no physical mute toggle at all (neither the classic Ring/Silent switch nor an Action Button defaulted to Silent). MacRumors notes Silent mode will be toggled from Control Center.

Why it matters for buyers
If you rely on a dedicated mute control (or remap Action Button to Flashlight, Focus, Shortcuts, or Visual Intelligence), Duo won’t offer that hardware shortcut. Silent becomes a software Control Center tap — worth knowing before you pre-order on October 16 for the October 23 launch (announce coverage).
