Apple is rolling out firmware 1.4.90 for the 140W USB-C Power Adapter. It installs automatically when plugged into a Mac; Apple published no release notes.
Apple has released firmware 1.4.90 for its 140W USB-C Power Adapter, MacRumors reports. The charger is the high-wattage brick that ships with 16-inch MacBook Pro models and is sold separately for fast charging.
As with prior accessory firmware, Apple did not publish release notes, so what’s fixed or changed in 1.4.90 is unknown.
How the update reaches the adapter
MacRumors says the firmware installs automatically over time when the adapter is plugged into power and connected to a Mac or other compatible device. There is no manual install path in Settings or System Settings.
To check the installed version on a Mac, open System Information → Power and look under AC Charger Information.
Why it matters (quietly)
Accessory firmware rarely makes headlines, but the 140W adapter is part of the everyday charging path for many MacBook Pro owners—especially anyone using MagSafe 3 fast charge. A silent auto-update is Apple’s normal maintenance model for this class of hardware; treat 1.4.90 as a confirmed accessory push, not a feature launch.
This is separate from today’s Surprise and Shine iPhone event, and from the already-announced Mac mini / Mac Studio machines that begin shipping later this month.
Bottom line: If you own a 140W USB-C Power Adapter, leave it connected occasionally and the 1.4.90 update should land on its own. Apple has not said what it changes.
