Apple releases iOS 26.6.2 with a fix for cellular software updates
Apple is rolling out iOS 26.6.2 (and iPadOS 26.6.2) with a cellular software-update download fix — a small but timely patch on the eve of Surprise and Shine.
Apple today released iOS 26.6.2 for iPhone 11 and later, according to MacRumors and 9to5Mac. The minor iOS 26 update’s release notes are brief: it fixes an issue that prevents downloading a software update over a cellular connection. iPadOS 26.6.2 ships with the same fix.
Install from Settings → General → Software Update. The build may take a few minutes to appear for every device.
Why the timing matters
iOS 26.6.2 arrives about three weeks after iOS 26.6.1’s security fixes, and one day before Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event on Wednesday, September 9. Apple is widely expected to announce an iOS 27 release window around the keynote, with the update itself likely later this month.
Clearing the cellular download bug before that larger upgrade is practical: users who install OS updates over mobile data would otherwise hit a friction point right when iOS 27 starts rolling out.
What this is not
This is not a feature drop. MacRumors and 9to5Mac both describe a single documented bug fix. Apple’s public “About iOS 26 Updates” support page may lag the storefront for a few hours after a point release — treat Settings → Software Update as the source of truth for whether 26.6.2 is available on your phone.
