Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple plans to unveil a Readiness app — a Vitals variant aimed at Whoop- and Oura-style recovery scoring — alongside Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 on Wednesday.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple plans to announce an all-new Readiness app during Wednesday’s “Surprise and shine” event, according to a MacRumors report summarizing a social post he published Tuesday.
Gurman described Readiness as a variant of the existing Vitals app on Apple Watch. The goal, he said, is to better compete with recovery-focused software from Whoop and Oura — products known for daily readiness-style scores that estimate how prepared your body is for activity.
Vitals (introduced with watchOS 11) already consolidates overnight metrics such as heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature, and sleep duration. A Readiness layer would likely turn similar inputs into a recovery-oriented view rather than a raw vitals dashboard.
This is a confirmation-of-intent update, not the first sighting of the feature name. watchOS 27 / iOS 27 code already pointed to a separate Readiness app near Workout in Home Screen logic. Gurman’s Tuesday note adds the claim that Apple will announce it at the event, alongside Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4.
Gurman has also previously reported that both new watches are expected to add continuous heart-rate sensing even outside workouts — the kind of always-on signal recovery scoring typically depends on.
Apple has not published Readiness details. Exact scoring, whether the app ships to older watches, and how it differs from Vitals remain event-day questions. Treat Tuesday’s note as a strong rumor from a primary Apple reporter, not a shipping guarantee.
