Hours before Apple’s Surprise and Shine event, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is out with a last-minute update on the company’s first foldable iPhone — including a name change that breaks with months of “Ultra” chatter.
According to reporting from MacRumors and 9to5Mac, Gurman now says the official name will be iPhone Duo, emphasizing the dual-screen design rather than the “Ultra” branding Apple employees have used internally.
$2,000 entry price — and an October sales window
Gurman’s latest note puts the entry model at $2,000 for 256GB, with higher storage tiers climbing toward roughly $3,000. That is a meaningful shift from yesterday’s Bloomberg-driven $2,199 price talk: Apple is reportedly eating some of the memory-cost overrun to keep the starter configuration at the $2,000 line, while still passing more of the bill to buyers who pick larger storage.
Availability is the other new claim. The Duo will “go on sale as early as October,” per Gurman — potentially weeks after the expected iPhone 18 Pro pre-order window around September 12. Production constraints have long been part of the foldable rumor stack; this timing note is more specific than earlier “very close to the Pros” guidance.
Colors, Pencil, and a quieter Pro price bump
