Apple’s next iPad mini could go on sale by the end of October

A new report puts Apple’s next iPad mini on track to go on sale by the end of October, with an OLED display expected to be the headline change. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported the timing in his latest Power On newsletter, according to 9to5Mac. Apple has not announced the tablet or confirmed its specifications.

The reported timing points to a separate October announcement rather than an appearance at Apple’s September 9 iPhone event. Gurman’s report says the OLED iPad mini “should go on sale by the end of October,” although Apple’s exact announcement and pre-order plans remain unknown.

The display would be the most visible change. OLED can produce deeper blacks and higher contrast than the LCD panel used by the current iPad mini, but this report does not establish whether Apple will add a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. The new model is also rumored to bring faster performance, improved water resistance through a redesigned casing, and a vibration-based speaker system. Those details remain unconfirmed.

Apple last updated the iPad mini in October 2024 with the A17 Pro chip, Apple Pencil Pro support, and Apple Intelligence compatibility. The current model starts at $599 in the U.S. after a $100 price increase earlier this year, so pricing for an OLED replacement is another open question.

Apple has not confirmed the product, its launch window, its chip, display refresh rate, design, or price. The October timing comes from reported plans, not a public Apple schedule, and a product being prepared for sale does not guarantee that every rumored feature will ship.
