iOS 27 RC: customize Camera app controls on any supported iPhone
The iOS 27 Release Candidate unlocks long-rumored Camera control customization for every compatible iPhone—not just iPhone 18 Pro—ahead of the September 14 public launch.
The iOS 27 Release Candidate that Apple seeded to developers on Wednesday adds a long-rumored Camera app feature: you can finally customize which controls sit at the top of the viewfinder.
MacRumors reports that the Edit path lives behind the six-dot button in the bottom-right of Camera. Tap Edit, then use the new Add Photo Controls tray to add or remove widget-like controls before pressing Done. A Rest to Essentials option resets the tray to Apple’s defaults.
Depending on the iPhone model, available controls include:

- Timer
- Exposure
- Styles
- Filters
- Depth Control
- Night Mode
- Center Stage
- File Format
- Shared Library
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman floated Camera customization back in May. When it stayed out of Apple’s WWDC preview, he suggested Apple might be holding it for the iPhone 18 Pro camera hardware wave. The RC behavior points the other way: MacRumors says the customization appears available on all iPhone models that can run iOS 27, not only the new Pro line.
That makes this a broad software utility story rather than a Pro-only hardware tip. Public iOS 27 still lands Monday, September 14—so beta and RC testers can rearrange Camera now, and everyone else should get the same Edit tray with the launch build.
