Tim Cook won’t appear in Apple’s September 9 event video, report says
MacRumors, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, says Tim Cook will attend Wednesday’s screening but will not feature in the prerecorded “Surprise and shine” video as John Ternus leads.
Tim Cook is expected to attend Apple’s “Surprise and shine” screening on Wednesday, but he will not appear in the prerecorded event video itself, according to MacRumors, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
Cook stepped down as CEO on September 1 and is now executive chairman. John Ternus is CEO and is expected to lead the presentation.
What the reporting says
MacRumors summarizes Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter: Apple has “carefully orchestrated this transition to make Ternus the face of the foldable iPhone and all the new products to come,” and putting Cook in the video “would just undermine that.” Cook is still expected in VIP seating at the in-person screening at Apple Park.
Apple has confirmed the September 9, 10 a.m. Pacific event and stream destinations. It has not commented on who will appear on screen.
How to read this
Treat the video-role detail as specialist reporting from Gurman via MacRumors, not an Apple announcement. Ternus leading the keynote fits Apple’s public CEO transition; Cook’s absence from the tape is a reported production choice, not a confirmed statement that he is leaving the company.
