Golden Retriever Spots a Lone Stranger in the Park and Clocks in for Cuddle Duty

Joey was stretched out on the sunny grass with his mom when someone caught his eye — a young woman sitting by herself on the lawn, quietly scrolling through her phone.

Marching over to offer a hug

True to form, the clip shared by his family on Instagram as @joey_how_u_doinnn shows the blonde retriever strutting straight across the turf. Within five seconds, he had parked his fluffy frame right beside her shoulder.

The woman glanced up, gave him an affectionate pat, and Joey’s tail instantly hit high gear. He leaned right in against her, soaking up long scratches on his neck while offering up the trademark, contented squint that Golden Retrievers pull off when they feel entirely welcome.

Spotting another assignment on the way back

Having completed his self-appointed welcome duty, Joey turned around and began jogging back toward his mom. But he did not make it very far.

As reported by DogTime, mom watched his pace slow down as his head swiveled toward another corner of the park. Sure enough, sitting alone in the distance was another stranger. Joey froze mid-stride, looked back at mom with his tail thumping against his flanks, and started to lie down on the grass before second-guessing himself. As mom put it from Joey's perspective, he was going to take a break, but he simply could not leave someone sitting by herself.

With what his mom dubbed “flirty tail wags,” Joey turned right back around and trotted off toward his next social call.
