Returned due to housing rules, the playful 2-year-old pup urgently needs a foster or adopter in Texas.
Behind the chain-link gate of his kennel, Bruno pressed his dark muzzle close to the wire and watched every set of footsteps pass his door.
Just days earlier, the 2-year-old Labrador Retriever mix had lived inside a home of his own. But when his family faced living arrangements that barred pets on the property, Bruno was surrendered back to the kennel runs at Pasadena Animal Shelter in Texas.
Outside the kennel, Bruno shows every ounce of his playful, affectionate nature. Weighing in at an easygoing 40 pounds, he lights up in the shelter yard, sprinting across the grass to chase tennis balls and leaning in for head scratches the moment a volunteer crouches down. Back inside the cinderblock runs, however, shelter staff noted how quickly kennel life began to wear on him.
Advocates with @petspasadenatx shared footage of Bruno to spotlight his gentle temperament after he was placed on the shelter’s urgent list, appealing for an immediate foster or adopter to step forward.
Animal lovers and shelter supporters quickly rallied around the clip, deeply moved by how abruptly gentle family companions can find themselves displaced through no fault of their own:
Housing barriers and restrictive rental policies remain among the most frequent drivers of pet surrenders across municipal shelters. When devoted dogs like Bruno are returned through sudden lease changes, shelter environments can trigger abrupt stress, making community foster programs a vital lifeline. Stepping in as a temporary foster removes an animal from a noisy kennel environment, preserves their social confidence, and gives rescue advocates valuable time to match them with a permanent home.
Despite his sudden transition, Bruno has maintained his sweet, trusting disposition. He is already neutered, microchipped, up to date on his vaccinations, and undergoing care for a manageable flea allergy. While he tested positive for heartworms, his medical treatment is fully sponsored for whoever steps up to foster or adopt him, as detailed by DogTime.
Pasadena Animal Shelter is providing all necessary supplies for local foster caregivers willing to give Bruno a calm place to decompress. Inquiries and rescue holds can be submitted directly through foster-rescue@pasadenatx.gov and adoptions@pasadenatx.gov at their Burke Road facility, helping ensure this loyal rescue dog gets the loving adoption chapter he deserves.
