Alexandra Sava rushed to create an air hole before carrying the confused 9-year-old pup indoors to safety.
Alexandra Sava, founder of Romanian rescue Sava’s Safe Haven, was busy cleaning kennels when barking drew her attention to a car pulling up outside. The visitors explained that a family member had recently passed away, leaving behind a dog they couldn't keep. To Sava's shock, they pointed her toward a tightly tied white cloth bag.
Knowing time was of the essence, Sava's first instinct was ensuring the animal could breathe. “I made a little hole for the dog to breathe,” Sava told The Dodo. She quickly brought the bundle into a secure room indoors before untying it, explaining, “I entered the shelter because I was afraid to fully open the bag outside because the dog was traumatized, so I didn’t want to risk the dog escaping.” Once released, the stunned pup was so frightened and confused that she hardly moved.
A microchip scan revealed that the gentle pup was a 9-year-old senior, prompting shelter staff to dub her a sweet "little old lady." Sava named her Lica and gave her a quiet, secluded space away from the other kennel residents so she could decompress. Despite her heartbreaking ordeal, medical checks confirmed that Lica is in good health, and the shelter team is giving her all the patience and love she needs until she is ready for a forever home.
