Firefighters Responding to 'Duckling' Call Rescue Friendly Dog from Dumpster
Firefighters answered a call about trapped ducklings, but found a sweet black Lab mix in need of rescue instead!
Every call Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responds to comes with a degree of mystery. So when Engine 48 received a report about ducklings trapped inside a garbage bin, they rushed to the scene ready to help some little feathered friends.
When the crew peeked inside the dumpster, however, they were in for a major surprise. Instead of ducklings, they found a panting black Lab mix tucked inside under the scorching sun.
The firefighters carefully reached in and checked the pup for injuries. Thankfully, he was completely unhurt, though he lacked any collar, ID tag, or microchip. Despite his rough ordeal in the heat, the friendly pup greeted his rescuers with tail wags and pure gratitude.
Promising not to leave their new buddy behind, the crew brought him back to Engine 48's fire station. They gave him a gentle bath, fresh food, a cool drink, and a brand-new name: Jack.

Jack instantly settled into station life like he had always been part of the crew. His sweet nature won over everyone he met, especially one firefighter who stepped up to take Jack home as a foster parent while searching for his permanent family.
What started as a routine rescue call ended with a bright second chance for Jack, proving that sometimes the best surprises come on four paws!
