Rescue Dog Gently Nudges Foster Puppy Closer in Bed Like His Very Own Baby

When little Cowboy drifted off, Cactus pulled him right back into the crook of his neck.

But Honey soon required intensive heartworm treatment at another specialized foster home, meaning she could not safely nurse or stay with her pups while receiving medication.
While his littermates eventually found permanent homes, Cowboy stayed behind in foster care with Michael and Cactus. For young rescue puppies separated early from their mothers, the presence of a steady, patient adult dog can make all the difference. Puppies instinctively rely on the rhythmic breathing, warmth, and physical contact of a mother to regulate their nervous systems during sleep. Cactus immediately filled that void, supervising Cowboy’s naps, offering gentle corrections, and letting the tiny pup treat him like a surrogate parent.
Seeing how deeply the pair had bonded, Michael decided to make Cowboy's stay permanent, turning a temporary placement into an official heartwarming adoption.
