Delivery Driver Steps Out With Groceries and Gets Wrapped in a Giant Dog Hug

Paris Johnson pulled into the unfamiliar driveway with an armload of Walmart groceries, only to see a massive black dog sprinting straight toward her car.

She froze behind the wheel. Delivering packages usually meant crossing paths with curious neighborhood cats, but facing a large, unrestrained dog on an unfamiliar property set off every courier instinct. Johnson hesitated before cracking her door, unsure whether the charging animal was guarding his yard or greeting a guest.

"Because of his size, it kinda intimidated me a little bit," Johnson told The Dodo.

An intimidating sprint turns into a bear hug

The hesitation dissolved the moment her feet touched the pavement. Instead of barking or posturing territorially, the big dog leaped up gently and wrapped both front legs securely around her waist, greeting her with an enormous heartwarming hug. Johnson still had bags to carry to the porch, but her new companion refused to detach himself, happily waddling alongside her as she completed the drop-off.

At the front door, the homeowner greeted Johnson and introduced the affectionate giant as Rex. "The owner was like, 'Oh, he’s super friendly,'" Johnson recalled. "He was just a sweetheart, a big teddy bear."

With the order delivered, Johnson began walking back toward her vehicle, but Rex had no intention of ending the visit. Clinging tight to her torso, the Mixed Breed companion escorted her every step across the driveway. Stunned by how openly affectionate the dog was, Johnson pulled out her phone to capture the impromptu cuddle session.

Negotiating an exit from the driveway

When Johnson finally reached the driver’s side and opened her door, Rex immediately staged an affectionate protest. Every time she tried to slip behind the steering wheel, the dog reached out his paw and nudged the car door shut, blocking her departure.

"I've already done my delivery and I gotta go," Johnson pleaded playfully on camera while stroking Rex's head, laughing as she called toward the house for an assist: "Can somebody help get Rex?"

For delivery couriers, loose dogs often represent genuine occupational hazards that demand strict avoidance protocols. But Rex’s disarming sweetness turned a standard route stop into a memorable emotional boost that brightened Johnson's entire shift.

Eventually, Johnson managed to gently coax Rex down, secure her door, and drive off to finish her remaining stops. The lingering warmth of the encounter even shifted her perspective on pet ownership, leaving her eager to welcome an affectionate rescue of her own in the future.
