Nevada Approves Tesla Robotaxi Permit With an Initial 10-Vehicle Limit

Nevada approved Tesla’s robotaxi permit, but capped the initial fleet at 10 autonomous vehicles inside a restricted Las Vegas geofence.
Tesla has received an Autonomous Vehicle Network Company permit in Nevada, but the initial authorization is far narrower than a statewide robotaxi rollout. Tesla had asked Nevada for authority to operate up to 5,000 vehicles in Clark County within a year. The issued permit also restricts operations on roads with posted speed limits above 45 mph and imposes additional rules around Harry Reid International Airport pickups, vehicle markings, and rider notification.
The authorization is a regulatory milestone, not evidence that Tesla’s consumer vehicles can operate without supervision everywhere. Robotaxi service under a regulator-approved operating design is distinct from FSD (Supervised), which requires an attentive driver in a consumer Tesla.
For riders, availability and service boundaries will be the practical limits to watch. For Tesla, the next test is whether it can obtain approval to expand beyond the initial fleet and geofence while demonstrating compliance with Nevada’s operating conditions.
