Apple TV topped the 78th Emmy Awards with a company-record night led by Widow’s Bay’s historic comedy sweep — while CEO John Ternus demoed iPhone Duo on the carpet.
Apple TV had its biggest Emmy night yet.
At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday, Apple’s streamer led all platforms after Widow’s Bay swept its comedy categories and pushed Apple to a company-record haul — 28 program Emmys for Apple TV, or 29 when including Apple’s Outstanding Commercial win for the “I’m Not Remarkable” ad, per trade tallies and Apple-focused reporting.
Trade outlets including Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline independently put Apple TV at the top of the platform table (ahead of HBO Max), with Widow’s Bay as the night’s most-awarded show.
The Television Academy’s winners release lists Widow’s Bay with 14 wins overall after Creative Arts plus Primetime.
This is the first time Apple TV has led the Emmy platform tally — a step beyond last year, when The Studio set a comedy record but Apple still trailed HBO Max and Netflix overall.
For readers tracking Apple’s services push alongside hardware week: the Emmys result lands days after iOS 27 and the OS 27 lineup went public, and weeks before iPhone Duo pre-orders.
New Apple CEO John Ternus attended the ceremony and, in a Deadline interview clip circulated by 9to5Mac, pulled an unreleased iPhone Duo from his tuxedo jacket for a brief product demo. Duo starts at $1,999, with pre-orders set for October 16 and availability October 23.
Widow’s Bay, Pluribus, and Slow Horses stream on Apple TV ($14.99/month or via Apple One).
