How to update to iOS 27 and the rest of Apple’s OS 27 lineup today

What’s releasing today

Apple’s post-event materials and Newsroom notes put these free updates on the same Monday:

• iOS 27 / iPadOS 27
• macOS 27 (Golden Gate)
• watchOS 27 — see our full release notes rundown
• tvOS 27
• visionOS 27

Developers already had the last gate with App Store submissions open on Xcode 27 RC.

How to update (iPhone / iPad)

1. Back up with iCloud or a computer first.
2. Plug into power and join a Wi‑Fi network (cellular downloads are not the supported path).
3. Open Settings → General → Software Update.
4. If iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 appears, tap Download and Install and follow the prompts.

Apple’s support flow for stuck updates also documents common blockers: an active VPN or proxy, not enough free storage, or a corrupted partial download you should delete from Settings → General → iPhone/iPad Storage before retrying (Apple Support; MacObserver summary of Apple’s documented alerts).

If over-the-air still fails, Apple’s documented fallback is updating from a Mac with Finder (or the Apple Devices app / iTunes on older setups).

How to update everything else

• Mac: System Settings → General → Software Update for macOS 27 Golden Gate.
• Apple Watch: With a paired iPhone on (or updating to) iOS 27, open the Watch app → General → Software Update, or check on-wrist Settings. Apple’s Health notes peg watchOS 27 to Watches from Series 9 / Ultra 2 / SE 3 upward, requiring a compatible iPhone on iOS 27.
• Apple TV: Settings → System → Software Updates.
• Vision Pro: Settings → General → Software Update for visionOS 27.

Compatibility quick hits

• iPhone: Same floor as iOS 26 — iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), per MacRumors.
• Siri AI / many Apple Intelligence features: Require Apple Intelligence–capable hardware (MacRumors: iPhone 15 Pro or newer for Siri AI). Installing iOS 27 does not automatically enable every AI feature; English Siri AI starts with this release, with more languages planned for October, and EU / China caveats still apply — details in our Sep 14 launch note.
• macOS 27: Apple silicon only (Intel Macs stop at macOS 26), as reiterated in Apple’s developer notes.

Before you tap Install

• Free up storage; Apple has not published a single required free-space number for every device.
• Leave the phone on Wi‑Fi and power for the download + install window.
• Expect staggered availability — your device seeing nothing while a friend’s updates is normal early in the day.
