Apple testing Whoop-like screenless fitness band prototypes, Bloomberg says

Apple has been exploring a screen-free health and fitness tracker similar to Whoop’s bands and has developed prototypes, MacRumors reports (Juli Clover, Tuesday, September 22, 2026, ~9:48 a.m. PDT), citing Bloomberg. Apple has not decided whether the project will move forward.

This is a different product class from the AirTag-sized AI pin / pendant story — a wrist-worn activity tracker, not a wearable AI pin.

What Bloomberg / MacRumors describe

Treat the following as reported prototype / exploration details, not a confirmed product:

• Form: a fabric band attached to a computing module that rests on the wrist (no display), comparable in concept to Whoop’s screenless trackers
• Sensors: heart rate and other metrics in a vein similar to Apple Watch
• Interest: Apple chair Tim Cook and services chief Eddy Cue are said to be interested; Cue now leads Apple’s health teams and is described as pushing for wearables with simpler interfaces (Whoop- and Oura-like)

MacRumors notes that recent Apple Watch models already borrow category ideas such as readiness scoring and biological-age style estimates, and that a redesigned Health app is in the iOS 27.2 public beta train.

Timing caveat

If Apple green-lights the project, MacRumors / Bloomberg framing is that it likely would not launch until at least 2028. Wearable AI glasses and camera AirPods are described as coming first. Until Apple announces hardware, treat every detail as reported exploration, not shipping fact.
