iOS 27 Notification Center: top-center swipe goes to Siri AI
With Siri AI on in iOS 27, the top-center swipe opens Siri; Notification Center moves to a top-left swipe. There’s no toggle to restore the old center gesture.
When iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 land today, one of the first habit changes for people who turn on Siri AI is where Notification Center lives.
9to5Mac’s hands-on (updated through late betas) describes the behavior that is shipping:
Default vs Siri AI enabled
Siri AI off: Swiping down from the top center still opens Notification Center, as it has for years.
Siri AI on: That same top-center swipe invokes Siri instead.
Siri AI on: Notification Center moves to a swipe down from the top-left corner. Alerts also animate in from that corner as a visual cue.
On iPad, after early-beta tweaks, the sides settle into roughly Notification Center on the left and Control Center on the right, with the middle reserved for Siri.

There is no Settings toggle to keep the center swipe assigned to Notification Center once Siri AI is enabled — you either leave Siri AI off, or rebuild the habit around the left edge.
Why it shows up now
This is a release-day how-it-works note, not a feature opinion piece. It pairs with today’s OS 27 update how-to and the earlier Siri AI language / availability caveats. Siri AI still requires Apple Intelligence–capable hardware and is not a universal flip for every iPhone that can install iOS 27.
