iPhone 18 Pro gets Apple’s C2 modem; Pro Max U.S. specs don’t name it

Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max announcement is not a clean modem story. Official copy credits C2 to the smaller Pro — and U.S. tech specs do not mirror that language for Pro Max.
What Apple says
In the Newsroom release, Apple writes that both models include N1 (Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread), then: “iPhone 18 Pro introduces C2,” Apple’s next-generation cellular modem with AI-assisted reliability, faster uploads vs C1X, 15% less energy, and mmWave in the U.S.
On the U.S. tech specs page, Apple C2 cellular modem appears in the Pro wireless block. The Pro Max block that follows lists sub‑6 / mmWave 5G and Gigabit LTE — without naming C2.
Band lists also diverge: U.S. Pro model A3472 includes LTE Band 106; Pro Max model A3473 does not. MacRumors and follow-up coverage treat that as a signal the Max may stay on Qualcomm modem silicon in the U.S., while noting C2 also appears on iPhone Duo.
What is still unclear
- Apple has not published a sentence that says “Pro Max uses Qualcomm.”
