Apple cuts more than 200 jobs across Vision Pro and Siri teams

Apple has cut more than 200 jobs across teams working on Vision Pro, Siri, and software engineering, according to reporting from Bloomberg summarized by 9to5Mac. The cuts include about 100 positions in the Vision Pro group and roughly 100 more across Siri and related software teams.

Apple told 9to5Mac that the changes were made “to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users.” The company said it will create new roles while eliminating some existing positions, and that affected employees can apply for jobs created as part of the reorganization.

Vision Pro priorities are shifting

The biggest change appears to be inside Apple’s Vision Pro organization. Bloomberg’s reporting, as summarized by 9to5Mac, says Apple is largely shutting down a Vision Pro team focused on gaming and scaling back the group that produces Immersive Video content for the headset.

Apple still plans to make a smaller number of immersive videos in-house and will encourage outside creators to produce content. The company has also told employees that Vision Pro and visionOS are not being discontinued. Near term, however, Apple is reportedly concentrating on smart glasses that would not support Immersive Video or advanced gaming titles. Bloomberg has also reported that Apple is considering another Vision Pro model as early as the end of 2028.

Siri teams are being reorganized

Around 100 positions were also cut from Siri and software teams. The reorganization is connected to Apple’s Siri AI work, which uses a revised technical architecture and requires different expertise, according to the report.

Apple’s Intelligent Systems Experience team is affected as well. The company said it is realigning work on AI-powered capabilities as more groups add AI functions to apps, features, and services. That means the cuts appear to be part of a broader shift in how Apple organizes its AI development, rather than a simple reduction in Siri investment.

The latest reductions follow an earlier report of roughly 60 layoffs in Apple’s Vision Pro team. The new figures suggest the company is moving resources toward smart glasses and its newer Siri architecture while reducing some of the content and gaming work associated with Vision Pro.

Apple has not provided a detailed breakdown of every affected team or announced a timetable for the reported smart-glasses project. For now, the clearest takeaway is a change in priorities—not the end of Vision Pro or visionOS.
