Pearl the Golden Retriever refused to sit quietly while her little sister soaked up all the pampering.
Mom had barely settled onto the living room floor with a slicker brush before Pearl closed the distance. Violet had already claimed the prime spot right in front of the bristles, but her older sister was not about to accept spectator status.
Pearl circled the grooming setup, planted herself squarely at her mom's shoulder, and leaned in until her nose was hovering millimeters from Elise Hurley's cheek. Violet joined the family as a puppy in March 2022, and the two Golden Retrievers have turned almost every domestic routine into a friendly footrace. As Elise noted when sharing the clip reported by DogTime, the pair are “always scrambling to be the first to get brushed”—a competitive streak that repeats itself every time the doggy toothbrush comes out of the drawer.
Most dog owners spend years convincing their pups that grooming is nothing to fear. Between the gentle tug of pins and the unfamiliar sensation of detangling brushes, plenty of dogs take brush time as a cue to make a quiet exit. For Pearl and Violet, however, one-on-one coat care translates directly to exclusive cuddle time—and when you’re a retriever with serious FOMO, watching your sister soak up undivided attention is simply asking too much.
Elise managed to finish Violet's session through the giggles, though keeping two eager retrievers sorted may soon require a strict take-a-number ticketing system before the grooming caddy even opens.
