Dealers at a North Carolina card show told Sports Collectors Digest that football card values, especially quarterbacks, swing sharply with weekly performance and injuries.
Sports Collectors Digest reported October 14 from the Sports Wax Promotions Collectors Showcase, held October 9 to 11 in Concord, North Carolina, with more than 500 tables. One vendor priced a 2023 Donruss Optic Bryce Young rookie at $300, 1-of-1 cards of Lamar Jackson and Shedeur Sanders carried $2,500 and $2,000 tags, and vintage Topps cards of Terry Bradshaw, Joe Theismann and Len Dawson sat at $5.
Dealers said quarterback cards can jump after one strong game and fall the next week on a poor outing or injury. Dealer Michael Heffner said some young quarterbacks now sell above Joe Montana's rookie, which lists for about $300, and that he has cut back on buying football.
Football remains the hobby's fastest-moving market, which rewards quick flips but punishes buyers who chase a single big game.
