The autographed rookie card was found in a single hobby box opened on Christmas morning.
An 11-year-old collector uncovered the hobby's most anticipated modern baseball card on Christmas morning: the 2024 Topps Chrome Update Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch Autograph 1/1. The card was graded a PSA 10 Gem Mint with a 10 autograph rating before selling for $1,110,000 on March 21, 2025.
The young collector had requested just one gift for Christmas: a single hobby box of 2024 Topps Chrome Update, purchased by his parents for roughly $320. Opening the box early on Christmas morning, he found the redemption card for the one-of-one Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher just five packs into the product.
The family chose to remain anonymous following the find. According to his father, the boy decided immediately to share the windfall with his brother and parents, with the proceeds slated for the children's future education.
