Leica is reportedly preparing a limited-edition Summicron-M 66mm f/2 lens based on the rare Elcan 66mm f/2, according to Leica Rumors. The report says the original lens was developed by Walter Mandler at Ernst Leitz Canada for the US Navy in the late 1960s and that only around 200 examples were made.
The reported new edition is expected to be limited to 660 pieces and positioned within Leica’s vintage, historical, heritage or classic collection. Leica Rumors expects an announcement on September 3, 2026, with pricing around $9,000/€9,000.
These specifications, production numbers, pricing and timing remain reported details rather than a Leica announcement. Leica has not officially confirmed the lens or its release date.
