MacRumors sources say Apple has another launch lined up for the final week of October, separate from the October 13 home products. An OLED MacBook Pro, an M6 14-inch MacBook Pro, and an M6 iMac are the likely candidates.
Apple is planning a second round of product announcements for the final week of October, separate from the home products expected on October 13, according to a MacRumors report citing multiple sources familiar with the matter. MacRumors says it does not know exactly which products are involved, but Macs are the most likely candidates.
The first wave is the one Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has already described: an all-new smart home hub, a new HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV 4K on Tuesday, October 13. Gurman wrote in his October 4 Power On newsletter that Apple is planning to hold an event that day, per MacRumors. We covered that three-product lineup when the date first surfaced.
The second wave, according to MacRumors, most likely includes:
On October 1, Gurman said on his Power On podcast that Apple will introduce its first touchscreen MacBook Pro "this fall, as early as October," while cautioning that "it could slip to November," as reported by 9to5Mac. He added that Apple is testing the laptops internally on macOS 27.2, which is expected to ship toward the end of October. A launch in the final week of the month fits both. We've tracked Gurman's October-or-November window and his follow-up report that the new machines will be significantly lighter.
The third macOS 27.2 beta, released October 5, also added touch gesture code to Safari, Photos, Notes, and Quick Look, though that code could also serve touch input in Sidecar.
Two late-October dates are already official. Apple said in its August 25 Mac Studio announcement that the Mac Studio with 512GB of unified memory is "coming in late October," after other configurations went on sale September 22. And iPhone Duo will be available to customers on October 23, Apple told developers on October 5.
MacRumors also expects a new iPad mini this month with an OLED display, an A20 Pro chip, a landscape front camera, and a redesigned speaker system. It says it is unclear whether that model will arrive on October 13, alongside the Macs, or on its own.
Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days sales are already discounting current Macs. If you're shopping for a MacBook Pro or an iMac, the reported timing makes a short wait reasonable, or at least a purchase from a retailer whose return window runs past the end of October. Mac mini and Mac Studio buyers have less reason to hold off, since both went on sale with new chips on September 22.
Apple has not announced an event or any of these products, and MacRumors did not say whether the Macs would be introduced at an event or by press release. Launch plans can change.
