Apple reportedly miniaturized and rearranged parts inside the redesigned laptop. Gurman gave no exact figure, but today's 16-inch model weighs as much as 4.8 pounds.
Apple's upcoming touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro will be "significantly lighter" than the current models, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman wrote in his Power On newsletter on October 4, 2026, as relayed by 9to5Mac and Engadget. It is the first new physical detail in weeks about a machine that has mostly been described by its spec sheet.
According to Gurman, Apple reengineered the laptop's interior, miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer much easier to carry. He did not give a target weight or say how much Apple has shaved off, so treat the size of the reduction as unknown until Apple publishes specs.
Earlier reports described the redesign as thinner, which we listed among the circulating rumors in our piece on Gurman's October or November timing. A lighter machine is a different promise. Gurman's description points to a rework of the internals, not just a slimmer enclosure.
Gurman put the current 16-inch MacBook Pro at as much as 4.8 pounds, compared with 3.3 pounds for the 15-inch MacBook Air, so any meaningful reduction would be immediately noticeable. Engadget notes the current 14-inch model starts at 3.4 pounds.
Engadget frames the laptop as a potential hardware milestone for John Ternus, who recently took over as Apple's CEO. Gurman added that rebuilding Apple's design teams was one of Ternus's first priorities, and that those teams now report directly to him.
Apple has not announced the new MacBook Pro or any event for it. Until it does, the weight, timing, and chip details remain Gurman's reporting rather than confirmed specs.
