AirPods firmware 9A348 unlocks iOS 27 features — how to get it

MacRumors and 9to5Mac both tie the firmware to iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 / macOS Golden Gate AirPods support, including:

• A redesigned AirPods settings interface
• An Adaptive Audio / Adaptive mode slider
• Custom EQ
• Compatibility with the new Siri AI experience on a compatible iPhone

9to5Mac also notes additional Pro-tier items such as Precision Finding via Apple Watch and GymKit on some models, with roughly half of the new feature set more exclusive to AirPods Pro 3. AirPods 5 are expected to ship with the same firmware generation when they arrive later this week.

How to get the update

There is still no manual “Update Now” button for AirPods. Apple’s documented path (support page; MacRumors how-to) is:

1. Update the paired iPhone, iPad, or Mac (ideally to iOS 27 / the rest of OS 27).
2. Put the earbuds in the case, close the lid, and put the case on power.
3. Keep the case in Bluetooth range of a Wi‑Fi–connected Apple device for at least ~30 minutes (installs can take longer).
4. Open the lid, reconnect, then check the version under Settings → [your AirPods] → About / Version (or Bluetooth device details on Mac).

For AirPods Max, plug the headphones into power while nearby instead of using a case.

Check the build

After the wait, look for firmware 9A348. If you’re still on an older build, leave the case charging near your phone overnight — AirPods firmware updates remain opportunistic background installs.
