Service Dogs Joyfully Reunite With the Puppy Raisers Who Helped Them Graduate
Before heading off to change lives, 75 newly graduated service dogs shared emotional reunions with their first foster families.
One of the biggest milestones in a service dog's journey is graduation day. After months of rigorous training, these devoted dogs are officially ready to embark on life-changing careers. But before sending their latest class off into the world, the organization Canine Companions planned an unforgettable surprise: a reunion with the puppy raisers who loved and nurtured them from the start.
The pups first arrive at their volunteer foster homes when they are just eight weeks old, staying until they reach a year and a half to learn socialization and foundational skills. Having spent months apart during advanced schooling, the dogs were overwhelmed with joy to see their favorite humans again. “There are wiggly butts, wagging tails, happy barks, wide eyes and doggie smiles, tears of pride and more puppy kisses than you can count,” Morgan Walker, director of public relations and marketing at Canine Companions, shared with .
