Trooper Rescues Puppy Abandoned in Crate at Rest Stop, and Their Instant Bond Is Pure Joy
Left alone along a busy interstate, little Miles greeted his rescuer with happy bounces before finding a loving forever family.
While on routine patrol late last month, Trooper Kronander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol made a heartbreaking discovery at the edge of a highway rest stop. Tucked beside the parking area sat a wire crate — and locked inside was a defenseless puppy who had been completely abandoned along the busy interstate.
The little dog had every reason to be terrified in such a lonely, unfamiliar place, but Kronander's gentle, playful spirit immediately put him at ease. The trooper's body camera captured their sweet interaction as soon as the cage door opened. Instead of cowering, the ecstatic pup bounced around Kronander, happily accepting ear rubs and playtime before hopping into the warmth of the patrol cruiser to head for safety.
The pup was brought to the Medina County SPCA, where staff lovingly named him Miles and began searching for answers regarding who left him behind. Fortunately, Miles did not have to wait long for his happily ever after. As humane officer Rachel Batten told The Dodo, a local Medina County Sheriff's deputy and his family adopted Miles the exact moment he became available, giving this resilient survivor the safe, devoted home he always deserved.
