Tesla Adds V2L to Premium Model Y, but Compatibility Is Vehicle-Specific

V2L allows a vehicle to supply electricity to external equipment, turning a compatible Model Y into a mobile power source for selected loads. Tesla’s support depends on the vehicle configuration, so the feature is not automatically available on every Model Y with the same model name.

Owners should verify compatibility through Tesla’s official vehicle configuration, service documentation, or the Tesla app before buying equipment or booking work. A retrofit procedure is not the same as a blanket promise that every older Model Y can receive the feature at a reasonable cost.

The change expands the Model Y’s utility beyond transportation, particularly for camping, emergency power, and jobsite equipment. Its real-world value will depend on supported output, adapter availability, installation requirements, and whether the owner’s specific vehicle has the required hardware.
