Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system has been cleared for use on public roads in Estonia, the country’s transport authority said Friday. Tesla confirmed the decision on its European X account and said the rollout will begin soon.[1][2]
What Estonia approved
The Estonian Transport Administration accepted a type approval previously granted in the Netherlands. The authority said Tesla’s system had been tested on European roads for a year and a half before that approval, and noted that Lithuania has also approved the system.[1]
The approval does not make the system autonomous. Estonia classifies Tesla FSD as an SAE Level 2 driver-assistance system, so the driver remains fully responsible for the vehicle and must be ready to take control immediately.[1]
For owners, the immediate change is regulatory eligibility rather than guaranteed access. Tesla said the software rollout will begin soon, but the public statements do not specify a start date, compatible vehicle hardware, software build, subscription price, or whether every Tesla in Estonia will receive the feature.[2]
That distinction matters because FSD (Supervised) is a driver-assistance feature, not a driverless robotaxi service. Owners should wait for Tesla’s in-car notification or release notes and follow the vehicle’s local operating instructions rather than treating the approval as permission to stop monitoring the road.
Estonia’s decision extends the European approval path beyond the Netherlands and Lithuania, but it does not establish a bloc-wide consumer rollout. The next concrete signal will be Tesla identifying eligible vehicles and pushing the software to customers in Estonia.
