Nevada Clears Tesla for Up to 5,000 Robotaxis in Clark County

Nevada expanded Tesla Robotaxi’s authorization from an interim 10-vehicle limit to a ceiling of up to 5,000 vehicles in Clark County, but the permit is not an immediate deployment plan.
Tesla can now seek to operate up to 5,000 autonomous vehicles in Nevada’s Clark County after the Nevada Transportation Authority approved a broader Autonomous Vehicle Network Company permit on August 20, 2026. The decision replaces an interim authorization that limited Tesla Robotaxi, LLC to 10 vehicles on a restricted Las Vegas Strip corridor. Tesla’s original NTA application requested the 5,000-vehicle ceiling for the first 12 months.
The authorization covers Clark County and is a regulatory ceiling, not evidence that Tesla is about to deploy 5,000 robotaxis. Reporting on the NTA proceeding said Tesla Cybercab chief engineer Eric Early described the figure as a maximum and indicated that reaching roughly 2,500 vehicles in the first year would be a strong result. Reporting on the August 20 approval also distinguishes the permit from the company’s near-term operating plans.
