Apple finally posts tvOS 27 release notes on Support

Apple has finally posted the official What’s new in tvOS 27 list on its Apple TV software updates Support page — nearly two weeks after tvOS 27 itself shipped on September 14, 2026. This is a documentation update, not a new OS drop: MacRumors (Joe Rossignol, September 25, 2026) notes that Apple TV Settings does not show release notes, so Apple fills in the Support document instead. The Support page’s published date is September 25, 2026.
Many of the bullets were already known from earlier coverage; Apple’s list is still useful completeness for Apple TV 4K owners catching up.
What’s new, per Apple Support
Apple says the update enhances Apple Music, Podcasts, and AirPlay on tvOS, brings captions to more content, adds the ability to block individual apps, and includes bug fixes and security updates for Apple TV 4K.

Compatibility
MacRumors reports tvOS 27 is compatible with Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and newer. Apple’s tvOS 27 Support wording focuses on Apple TV 4K (bug fixes and security updates “for your Apple TV 4K”); treat first-generation Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD as outside that MacRumors compatibility line unless Apple says otherwise.
Separately, hardware rumors about a possible October Apple TV 4K refresh are a different story from these software notes.
