Leitz Cine Introduces iD Mount Metadata Option for HUGO and SUMMILUX-C Lenses
Leitz Cine’s optional iD Mount adds static /i metadata (lens ID, serial, distortion/shading maps) to HUGO (LPL) and SUMMILUX-C (PL) lenses. Trade press reports €500/mount and €320 Update Base; available now.
Leitz Cine has introduced the Leitz iD Mount, an optional mount with a metadata interface for Leitz HUGO (LPL) and Leitz SUMMILUX-C (PL) lenses. On compatible cameras, the mount lets the body recognize the lens and record a package of static /i metadata with every clip — including lens name, focal length, serial number, distortion map, and shading map.
According to Leitz Cine’s product page, the goal is persistent lens identity and characterization that can travel with footage through dailies and post, reducing manual lens logging, easing reshoot matching, and giving VFX teams Leitz-provided optical maps for plate undistortion, compositing, lens matching/emulation, and reapplying original lens characteristics after effects work.
What it does — and what it does not
Leitz is clear that iD Mount is not full lens telemetry. It does not transmit live, frame-by-frame focus or iris positions, or calculations based on changing lens settings. It is designed for cameras and workflows that already support /i metadata; Leitz says that if a camera already recognizes other metadata-enabled lenses, no extra camera accessory, license, battery, or special configuration is required. Display of identifying information still depends on the camera and monitoring setup.
Availability for new and existing glass
New HUGO and SUMMILUX-C lenses can be ordered with the optional iD Mount installed and programmed at the factory, or with a standard mount. The SUMMILUX-C version uses a PL mount; the HUGO version uses LPL. Leitz says one iD Mount design serves every focal length in the HUGO family, while SUMMILUX-C mounts are determined by focal length — and the 135mm SUMMILUX-C is not compatible with iD Mount.
Owners of existing lenses can buy mounts as upgrades. The interface is self-contained and does not require an internal electronic connection to the lens: installation is a mount swap plus a standard backfocus check and any needed shim adjustment. Owners who supply serial numbers can receive mounts pre-encoded with lens-specific information before shipping for an additional fee, so the mounts arrive ready to install.
Customers who prefer to program mounts themselves can use the Leitz iD Mount Update Base plus free Leitz software (macOS and Windows app stores) to create, review, change, or delete stored information. Selecting lens family and focal length loads the corresponding maps automatically. One Update Base is needed per lens family (PL for SUMMILUX-C, LPL for HUGO). Programming does not require an internet connection, account, license, or subscription, per Leitz.
Pricing and availability (as reported)
Trade coverage including Newsshooter and ProVideo Coalition reports the iD Mount at €500 per mount and the Update Base at €320 (PL or LPL). Leitz’s product page confirms global availability now through Leitz Cine and authorized partners, but does not itself list those euro figures in the public product copy reviewed here — treat retail quotes as reported by the trade press unless confirmed on an order form.
