U.S. apple.com and Apple Store app checkout now blocks more than two iPhone Duos per customer, MacRumors reports. Whether the cap was new or only newly noticed remains unconfirmed.
U.S. customers trying to buy more than two iPhone Duo units at once on apple.com or in the Apple Store app are hitting a checkout block, MacRumors reports (Juli Clover). The store shows: "A maximum of 2 iPhone Duo can be purchased per customer. Please adjust the total quantity of iPhone Duo in your order before checking out."
The two-unit cap is enforced at checkout on the U.S. online store and Apple Store app when quantity exceeds two. The U.S. product page does not advertise the limit up front; it surfaces after the cart overflows, MacRumors says.
Whether Apple newly applied the U.S. limit after pre-orders opened Friday, October 16, or only newly drew attention to a rule that was already in place, is not confirmed. MacRumors could not verify timing. Reddit accounts are mixed: some buyers say they purchased four Duos earlier, others say they were held to two.
By contrast, Apple’s store pages in markets such as China, Singapore, and Hong Kong already list a clear two-per-customer restriction on the buy page itself. We independently confirmed the upfront wording on Apple’s Hong Kong, China, and Singapore storefronts.
Duo launch-day delivery stock sold out within minutes of pre-orders opening, and many customers were left with November or December (or later) delivery windows. Apple has since moved up some existing estimates; our earlier coverage tracked earlier delivery estimates, Apple’s extraordinary-demand statement, and Gurman’s "major mistake" supply framing.
A hard two-unit online cap, whenever it started, makes it harder to stack large multi-unit orders under one customer on Apple’s direct channels. Households that need two devices remain within the limit; buyers who wanted three or more in one checkout do not.
