An EU Digital Markets Act register entry dated June 17, 2026 shows Apple, through a subsidiary, will acquire certain assets of Zurich audio-tools firm Samplab GmbH and hire certain Samplab employees. The notice became widely reported on October 19, 2026.
The European Commission’s Digital Markets Act list of acquisitions carries an entry under Apple Inc. dated June 17, 2026: Apple, through a subsidiary, will acquire certain assets of Samplab GmbH and offer employment to and hire certain Samplab employees. The summary also notes that Samplab develops audio editing tools. That register entry was widely reported on Monday, October 19, 2026 — consistent with the Commission’s practice of publishing non-confidential summaries no earlier than about four months after notification.
What the filing confirms is limited and important: an asset acquisition plus certain employee hires, not a disclosed purchase price, headcount, or product roadmap. Apple has not issued a public statement on how it will use the assets.
Secondary reporting (MacRumors, Juli Clover; AppleInsider; The Verge) describes Samplab as a Zurich-based startup founded in 2020 by Manuel Fritsche and Gian-Marco Hutter. Its desktop app and DAW plugins focused on AI-assisted music production: converting audio to MIDI, detecting and editing chords, stem splitting to isolate parts of a mix, and editing notes in polyphonic audio without changing the original timbre.
MacRumors reports Samplab shut down on September 17, 2026, and that the company’s website now redirects to Apple.com. AppleInsider says that in late June the site told users it was closing and refunding remaining annual subscription fees — timing that lines up with a mid-June EU notice.
Apple has not confirmed where Samplab’s technology will land. Outlets note it could eventually fold into Logic Pro or GarageBand, and AppleInsider also points at Apple Creator Studio as a possible home. Those are inferences from product overlap, not Apple commitments.
The overlap is real on paper: Logic Pro already ships Stem Splitter and chord-related tools. Polyphonic note editing inside mixed audio would be a clearer net-new capability if Apple chooses to ship it. None of that is guaranteed by the EU summary.
For Logic Pro and GarageBand users, the news is that Apple absorbed certain AI audio-editing assets and people from Samplab in a deal notified in June and only now visible on the public DMA register. Price, exact assets, and product plans remain undisclosed. Watch future Logic Pro, GarageBand, and Creator Studio release notes — not the filing — for whether any of this ships.
