Gurman calls a repeat of Apple Intelligence's five-month EU delay the best case, which would mean mid-February 2027 at the earliest. Apple still has no EU timeline for iPhone and iPad.
Siri AI may not reach iPhone and iPad owners in the European Union for at least another five months, and possibly much longer. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman made the estimate while answering a reader question in his October 4 Power On newsletter, as reported by MacRumors and iThinkDifferent.
Gurman called a repeat of Apple Intelligence's EU delay the "absolute best-case scenario." Apple Intelligence launched on October 28, 2024, and reached EU iPhones and iPads with iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 at the end of March 2025, a gap of about five months. The same gap measured from Siri AI's September 14 launch would put the earliest EU arrival around mid-February 2027, and Gurman said he wouldn't be surprised if European users wait considerably longer.
Apple said in June that the Digital Markets Act (DMA) would keep it from shipping Siri AI in the EU with iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. In its Newsroom statement, Apple said EU regulators turned down all of its proposals. Those included Trusted System Agent, an intermediary meant to give rival virtual assistants safe access to the same capabilities as Siri AI, and a plan to launch Siri AI while phasing that system in over 18 months. Apple said it has no timeline for Siri AI on iOS and iPadOS in the EU.
That is less than Apple offered last time. For Apple Intelligence, it announced its EU plan in February 2025 and named a target month.
Gurman believes Apple is using the missing feature to pressure the European Commission, hoping frustrated customers push back on the EU's approach. He also said he doesn't think Siri AI is compelling enough on its own to create that kind of groundswell, though he gets a steady stream of messages from European users about it.
Outside the EU, Siri AI launched in beta in English with iOS 27 on September 14, and French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish are due this month. Siri AI is also expected to sit at the core of the home hub, HomePod mini, and Apple TV that Gurman expects Apple to unveil on October 13. Neither Apple's statement nor Gurman's newsletter says how the EU restriction will apply to those devices.
The five-month floor is Gurman's estimate based on last year's precedent, not an Apple timeline.
