Jiemian News (梁宝欣 / 李家琦) says a person close to Foxconn’s supply chain told the outlet that final-assembly yields for iPhone Duo were only slightly above 60% as of about September 17. Under Apple’s current quality standards, the same source said, reaching a mature yield could take another six months to a year. What’s reportedly hard
The Foxconn-adjacent source told Jiemian that the assembler is still tuning equipment, processes, and line settings as Duo scales — typical for a first foldable, the report argues, rather than a single unresolved tech blocker. Suppliers were said to be waiting on whether Apple eases any quality requirements to accelerate mass production.
Problems reportedly extend upstream as well. Jiemian said Samsung Display’s foldable OLED panels and hinge-related parts had seen low yields, delayed deliveries, and design changes — leaving less time for the final assembler to tune the line. The outlet also reported that Apple tested Liquid Metal for some hinge parts before reassessing the approach ahead of mass production. Apple’s own Newsroom pitch says the Duo hinge contains more than 100 components and uses a 3D-printed cover.
Separately, MacRumors notes a MyDrivers claim that one contract manufacturer asked Apple to choose between prioritizing yield and pushing output harder (with more scrap as the trade-off). That secondary report is unconfirmed here.
Stocking and sales guidance (reported)
A supply-chain source told Jiemian that Apple’s global stocking target for Duo in 2026 is about 6–8 million units — far below a typical Pro / Pro Max cycle of 20–30 million, the outlet noted. Launch window still on
