Texas records and independent trackers now point to 45 Tesla Cybercabs in the company’s authorized Robotaxi fleet, but registration alone does not open public rides.
Tesla’s purpose-built Cybercab fleet in Texas has grown to 45 vehicles ahead of the company’s September 3 launch event in Austin, according to independent tracking of Texas Department of Motor Vehicles records. The updated count marks a sharp increase from the seven Cybercabs first visible in the state’s public automated-vehicle records, but it does not show that paying passengers can already request them.
Teslarati reported on August 31 that 38 additional Cybercabs had been added, bringing the reported total to 45. Not a Tesla App separately cited data from the Texas Autonomous Fleet Tracker, which also reported 45 Cybercabs registered under Tesla’s Robotaxi operating fleet. The Texas DMV’s Motor Carrier and Automated Motor Vehicle Operator Lookup identifies Tesla Robotaxi, LLC as authorized and maintains the state’s public vehicle list.
The earlier records listed 2026 Tesla Cybercabs with VINs beginning with the 5YJA prefix. Tesla’s existing Texas Robotaxi listings are Model Ys, whose VINs use a different prefix. Texas Senate Bill 2807, which took effect in May, requires commercial automated-vehicle operators to hold an active Texas Department of Motor Vehicles authorization and maintain an active vehicle list.
That makes the registrations a concrete regulatory and fleet-preparation step. It is not proof that all 45 vehicles are carrying customers, operating without remote assistance, or available in the Robotaxi app.
The Cybercab is Tesla’s dedicated two-seat robotaxi design. Unlike the Model Y vehicles currently used in Tesla’s Robotaxi service, it is designed without a steering wheel or pedals. Tesla has invited selected guests to an Austin event on September 3 and is expected to demonstrate the vehicles there.
The public records and independent tracker data do not establish how many Cybercabs are staged for demonstrations, employee rides, testing or immediate passenger service. Tesla has not published a customer-facing timetable, fare or general-availability plan for Cybercab rides.
For now, Tesla owners and Austin riders should not assume that a registered Cybercab is selectable in the Robotaxi app. The practical change is that a substantially larger purpose-built fleet appears in Texas’s authorized records; the next confirmation to watch is an actual passenger-service listing or a statement from Tesla about when public rides begin.
