Tesla has published a European FSD safety dashboard ahead of a possible October vote, but its collision comparison remains a company-reported measure—not proof that the driver-assistance system is safer in every situation.
Tesla says Full Self-Driving (Supervised) vehicles recorded fewer collisions than manually driven Tesla vehicles in five European countries, and it has published a safety dashboard ahead of a possible European Union decision on wider deployment.
The company said the comparison covers more than 100 million km of driving from April through August in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania. Tesla counted three collisions on highways and nine on non-highway roads involving FSD-equipped cars, compared with 137 and 490 respectively for manually driven Teslas.
Tesla describes the result as 4.1 times fewer collisions. That is a company-reported comparison, not an independent finding that FSD is safer in every driving situation. Reuters reported that experts had previously criticized Tesla safety statistics presented to European regulators as relying on invalid comparisons that could give a misleading impression of performance.
Tesla said on September 1 that it had open-sourced a safety dashboard previously shared with EU member-state regulators. The company is using the data to support broader approval after the Netherlands granted provisional approval in April and Belgium, Denmark, Estonia and Lithuania subsequently permitted the system.
A possible EU vote could come as soon as October 6, according to Tesla. Approval would require support from at least 15 of the EU’s 27 member states representing at least 65% of the bloc’s population. The process has drawn criticism because regulators, including the Dutch road authority RDW, have not published the underlying approval data, describing it as commercially sensitive.
FSD (Supervised) remains a driver-assistance system. Tesla’s own product page says the driver must actively supervise it, and that enabled features do not make the vehicle autonomous. A broader EU decision would address regulatory availability; it would not remove the driver’s responsibility or turn current consumer vehicles into unsupervised robotaxis.
For now, the practical effect is limited to the countries and approvals that apply to a specific vehicle and feature set. Owners should check Tesla’s local availability information and the car’s software screen rather than assume that an EU-wide vote would enable FSD immediately in every market.
The next meaningful evidence will be the regulators’ decision and any methodology or independent testing they publish. Tesla’s dashboard makes more of its case available for inspection, but it does not by itself resolve the questions about how the assisted and manual-driving groups were selected or compared.
