Apple finished Wednesday at $342.96, about $5.005 trillion. It is the first close above $5T after six earlier intraday crosses; Nvidia remains larger near $5.33T.
Apple closed Wednesday at $342.96, pushing its market capitalization to about $5.005 trillion and marking the first time the company has finished a trading day above the $5 trillion line.
The Wall Street Journal, cited by MacRumors, notes that Apple's valuation had already crossed $5 trillion six times during intraday trading. Until October 14, 2026, those moves did not hold through the close. The Verge likewise frames the session as Apple's first close above the mark.
That makes Apple the second company to close above $5 trillion, after Nvidia. Nvidia remains larger, with a market cap around $5.33 trillion. Apple briefly overtook Nvidia as the world's most valuable company in July before Nvidia reclaimed the lead.
The close lands just over a month after John Ternus succeeded Tim Cook as CEO, and two days ahead of iPhone Duo pre-orders on October 16. Ternus is also preparing for his first earnings call as CEO on November 2, when Apple reports fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 results. On the product side, Duo momentum continues with App Store submissions already open ahead of the October 23 launch, and Apple Stores preparing a personalized Duo Hello screen.
A first close above $5 trillion is largely a market milestone rather than a product announcement, but it arrives in a stretch where leadership transition and a high-profile iPhone launch are both in focus.
